UYRUFC 3rd XV vs Leeds 3rd XV
October 22nd, 2009 by UYRUFC WebmasterVs Leeds 3s
(lost 32-0)
The 3s opened their season campaign against league favourites Leeds in a game which was always going to be an uphill struggle. And that was apparent as Leeds raced to a 12-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes and York looked susceptible to a whitewash. However the inexperienced 3s, consisting of mostly freshman, showed determination and courage in their defence to make Leeds battle for every point they collected.
The most noticeable performance was that of fly half Sean Carmony who regularly relieved the backline pressure with some accurate kicking forcing Leeds to attack from the full-back on numerous occasions throughout the match. In a game that demanded intense forwards play, the feeling in the camp after the game was one of confidence, suggesting that York 3s could really push for promotion after reducing the deficit against a side they were expected to lose heavily to.
