The rugby club is one of the largest and most successful clubs on campus, earning us the title of York sport team of the year 2009, the highest sporting prize offered by the university. Last season was one of our best yet, with the First XV completing an undefeated run to gain League promotion to Northern 1A, and the second and third teams finishing comfortably in the top half of their leagues. In addition UYRUFC topped off the season in emphatic style with an unprecedented whitewash over our rivals Lancaster at Roses.

This season all three teams will again be looking for successful league and cup results, with promotion for the 2nd and 3rd teams a very realistic possibility. The 1st XV will be looking to consolidate their position in the top northern league and finish the season with some cup silverware. Our most important aim though is to ensure the club continues to grow in size. As one of the most high profile clubs on campus, we have a very lively social calendar, justifying this with professional attitudes to training and good results in BUCS. We are a very friendly and inclusive club because of the wide range of players involved in the squad, and are always welcoming to new members, whether you’re a playing superstar or simply a ‘social’ member. With this combination and a winning attitude on and off the pitch 2009-10 can be the most successful season ever for UYRUFC!
